What is Jazz?

Beauty from ugly. The unintended convergence of African and Western culture expressed through music. Truly American. By the people, for the people. Communal, welcoming music. Highly sophisticated rhythmically and harmonically but easily accessible and enjoyed by anyone. Truly fabulous. Fun to play and be around yet unappreciated, suppressed, and ignored by its own people. Always tinged with the undertones of racism and the perfect artistic expression of the American melting pot experiment. What does its future hold?
